We study the influence of suspending liquid inertia and rheology and particle concentration on the computationally measured storage and loss moduli of the suspensions. In particular, the rheology of the suspending liquid is modeled through the inelastic shear-thinning Carreau-Yasuda constitutive equation and the viscoelastic Giesekus and Oldroyd-B constitutive equations. The role of inertia is quantified by the Stokes number, St, whereas the relevance of the non-Newtonian effects of the suspension matrix is measured through the Carreau number, Cu, for the Carreau-Yasuda liquid and the Deborah number, De, for the viscoelastic liquids. In suspensions with a Carreau-Yasuda matrix, both the storage and the loss modulus increase with St and decrease with Cu, yet the order of magnitude of Cu has to be greater than unity for these effects to be visible.
