For one important survival mechanism, the response to chemical alarm cues from conspecifics, substantial among-individual variation in the extent of behavioral impairment when exposed to elevated CO₂ has been observed in previous studies. Whole brain transcriptomic data has further emphasized the importance of parental phenotypic variation in the response of juvenile fish to elevated CO₂. In this study, we investigate the genome-wide proteomic responses of this variation in the brain of 5-week old spiny damselfish, Acanthochromis polyacanthus. We compared the accumulation of proteins in the brains of juvenile A. polyacanthus from two different parental behavioral phenotypes (sensitive and tolerant) that had been experimentally exposed to short-term, long-term and inter-generational elevated CO₂. Our results show differential accumulation of key proteins related to stress response and epigenetic markers with elevated CO₂ exposure. Proteins related to neurological development and glucose metabolism were also differentially accumulated particularly in the long-term developmental treatment, which might be critical for juvenile development. By contrast, exposure to elevated CO₂ in the parental generation resulted in only three differentially accumulated proteins in the offspring, revealing potential for inter -generational acclimation. Lastly, we found a distinct proteomic pattern in juveniles due to the behavioral sensitivity of parents to elevated CO₂, even though the behavior of the juvenile fish was impaired regardless of parental phenotype. Our data shows that developing juveniles are affected in their brain protein accumulation by elevated CO₂, but the effect varies with the length of exposure as well as due to variation of parental phenotypes in the population.","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_10001_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"Publisher","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"Frontiers Media S.A."}]},"item_10001_relation_14":{"attribute_name":"DOI","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_type":"isIdenticalTo","subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"info:doi/10.3389/fmars.2020.00605","subitem_relation_type_select":"DOI"}}]},"item_10001_relation_17":{"attribute_name":"Related site","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fmars.2020.00605/full","subitem_relation_type_select":"URI"}}]},"item_10001_rights_15":{"attribute_name":"Rights","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_rights":"© 2020 Tsang, Welch, Munday, Ravasi and Schunter."}]},"item_10001_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"2296-7745","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_10001_version_type_20":{"attribute_name":"Author's flag","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2020-11-11"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"Tsang-2020-Proteomic Responses to Ocean Acidif.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"1.2 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","license_note":"Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International(https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"Tsang-2020-Proteomic Responses to Ocean Acidif","url":"https://oist.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/1774/files/Tsang-2020-Proteomic Responses to Ocean Acidif.pdf"},"version_id":"6443e168-de2f-45ff-9186-9b5fc3a3fd89"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"environmental proteomics","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"climate change","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"ocean acidification","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"behavior","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"tolerance","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"journal article","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Proteomic Responses to Ocean Acidification in the Brain of Juvenile Coral Reef Fish","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Proteomic Responses to Ocean Acidification in the Brain of Juvenile Coral Reef Fish","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10001","owner":"30","path":["189"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2020-11-11"},"publish_date":"2020-11-11","publish_status":"0","recid":"1774","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Proteomic Responses to Ocean Acidification in the Brain of Juvenile Coral Reef Fish"],"weko_creator_id":"30","weko_shared_id":30},"updated":"2023-06-26T11:43:05.261241+00:00"}
